Samsung to adopt 4F² DRAM in 2028; CXMT to ship 4F² DDR5 RDIMM by year-end
zephyr_z9 · x · 2026-10-10
DRAM is heading for a key process shift: industry analyst tphuang reports CXMT plans to unveil a DDR5 RDIMM using 4F² technology by end of this year, while Samsung plans to introduce 4F² in 2028. Moving from 6F² to 4F² cuts cell area by 33% at the same node — a huge shrink that requires rebuilding cell transistors. Samsung may start with a 4F²-derived or partial implementation on G5-class silicon, with full 4F² cells a bigger leap.
