- Per Bloomberg, Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston said in Tokyo that the company's optical components for AI data centers are completely sold out through early 2029, with capacity already committed.
- Lumentum cannot meet about 70% of demand for some products through next year and 30% for others through 2028; six months ago the sold-out date was 2028.
- Tokyo-area capacity grew twelvefold in two years, but new capacity still takes 3–5 years; Nvidia invested $2 billion in Lumentum earlier this year.
- Takeaway: optical component availability may become a critical scheduling constraint for new large-scale AI infrastructure.
