On the anniversary of ChatGPT's launch announcement, developer theshawxn reminisces: at the time it sounded lame, GPT was seen as autocomplete, and hardly anyone — perhaps not even Sam Altman — realized 'it' had been found. History gets rewritten to make winners look inevitable, but very few saw this coming and it was easy to dismiss.
