A 1956 photo from IISc shows young research student V. Rajaraman working on PREDA, a large electronic analog computer built from wires, amplifiers, and dials that emulated equations physically. He designed nonlinear units that expanded what the machine could solve, co-published "Studies on a High-Speed Electronic Differential Analyser" in March 1957, then moved to IIT Kanpur in 1962, where he trained 30+ PhD students and wrote many textbooks, helping launch Indian computing before digital computers existed there.
