Scoble at Tesla Gigafactory: Workers Wear VR-Like Rigs to Train Optimus, 20,000 Already There

Tech blogger Robert Scoble says a tour guide at Tesla's Gigafactory told him workers aren't worried about training their replacements: they walk around wearing VR-headset-like contraptions to collect training data for Optimus, in Texas and California.

Scoble's thesis: in robotics, whoever has the most data wins, and people are underestimating Tesla's huge advantage there. The guide also said major hiring is planned because of Optimus, with 20,000 people already working at the site.

He adds a counterintuitive take: AI has laid many people off, yet traffic is everywhere in America — in 2001 Silicon Valley freeways were empty at 7 a.m. after layoffs. He predicts a coming job boom with rising salaries, because there is so much new stuff to build.

He quotes another post criticizing Anthropic's policy of banning users who "talk bad to Claude," arguing that psychology and adversarial prompts are legitimate uses of language that activate new neuronal connections in LLM attention heads, and that dozens of accounts have recently been banned for it.
