Keenan Crane shows AI-generated shader with coarse-to-fine decomposition diagram
keenanisalive · x · 2026-10-10
Graphics researcher Keenan Crane shared a human-AI collaborative shader project: he prompted the model to organize computation in coarse-to-fine levels of detail, and had it generate a diagram showing how the model breaks down spatial detail. He argues coarse-to-fine strategies are crucial for spatial problems and likely help VLMs too. The shader is live on ShaderToy (with a browser-crash warning), and ShaderToy creator iñigo quilez has already criticized it — Crane hopes the human-machine collaboration will help fix the issues.
