CMU's Keenan Crane wraps AI-assisted 3D modeling thread, releases all model files under CC0
keenanisalive · x · 2026-10-10
Keenan Crane, geometry processing professor at Carnegie Mellon, wrapped up his long thread on AI-assisted 3D modeling and released all outputs — code, images, and meshes — in his CMU 3D Model Repository under CC0 public domain, including classics like Spot and Jerry the Ogre with control cages and textures.
His takeaway: he gets the multimodal hypothesis and the bitter lesson, but when the efficiency gap is that extreme, you have to take off your machine learning hat and put your computer science hat back on — classical geometry representations still matter.
