Reconstructing 3D from 2D is ill-posed; Nano Banana made the reference views
keenanisalive · x · 2026-10-10
The hard part: constructing a 3D model that agrees with two 2D projections that may not even be consistent—a genuinely ill-posed problem, since many combinations of geometry, materials, illumination and camera produce the same image. Step one was generating front/side reference images via Nano Banana, which the author calls by far the easiest part, underscoring diffusion models' edge over LLMs for dense visual content.
