Parallel Systems, founded by ex-SpaceX engineers, has raised $100M to build self-driving electric freight vehicles that put batteries and motors directly under standard shipping containers, eliminating the need for a locomotive.
Key specs:
- Up to 500 miles per charge, recharging in as little as one hour
- Vehicles automatically form and split into platoons, work with standard containers
- Aimed at making shorter rail routes competitive with trucks
The system is already being tested across 160 miles of railroad in Georgia.
