LumaBrowser goes open source: a local 'ChatGPT in a box' with auto model swapping
valdev · reddit · 2026-10-10
After a year of development and several thousand installs, LumaBrowser is now open source (GitHub: amurgola/LumaBrowser), pitching itself as an "Anthropic/ChatGPT in a box" bundling the local AI ecosystem into one project.
- Auto setup & model management: onboards LLM/image/music/voice models automatically, imports from LM Studio installs, and hot-swaps models per task (unload the LLM, load the image model, generate, swap back).
- Networking: emits a LAN web server, can cluster multiple machines, remote-mount GPUs/LLMs, or share over the internet.
- Agents: agent creation, scheduled/triggered tasks, a built-in CLI coding agent, JetBrains and VS Code addons, plus a code mode.
- Life integration: merges calendars (Google/Microsoft 365), task lists (ClickUp) and notification interception into a dashboard so the assistant has full personal context; also live tab sharing, game modes, and a roleplay extension.
- Performance: RAM pinning for hot models, a custom llama.cpp build keeping conversation caches warm, and a custom-trained routing model for tool calls.
