NVIDIA open-sources Boro: a Rust-based local AI assistant for Linux kernel development
evilsocket · x · 2026-10-10
NVIDIA engineer Andrea Righi unveiled Boro at LPC 2026 in Prague: an Apache 2.0-licensed CLI tool, written in Rust, that brings local AI assistance to Linux kernel development, inspired by Google's Sashiko tool.
- Focuses on AI-driven patch validation for backporting to older kernels, plus patch build/boot/testing, with plans to detect out-of-tree module breakage
- Supports remote OpenAI-compatible servers for those without local compute, as well as Claude, OpenCode, and Codex local back-ends
- Already usable today, providing code review on kernel mailing lists; Righi is interested in folding some functionality into Sashiko itself
Available on GitHub as NVIDIA/boro.
