Director Jeff T. Thomas, aka Jeff Synthesized, won the inaugural $2.5 million Future Vision XPRIZE with an AI-generated proof-of-concept trailer for "The Gifted," built around the prompt of depicting "a future worth building toward" in three minutes. The story follows an 11-year-old boy who builds an AI version of his late mother that quietly begins saving lives.
Judges included astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, novelist Neal Stephenson, Google's Mira Lane, Salesforce executive John Zissimos and Rod Roddenberry. Thomas, a veteran of TV episodes and music videos, hopes the win will change minds about AI filmmaking as he moves toward a feature debut.
