Ex-OpenAI policy VP: no frontier lab has even a concept of a plan for safe self-improvement
Miles_Brundage · x · 2026-10-10
Miles Brundage, former OpenAI policy VP, criticized all frontier AI companies at once: none has even a concept of a plan for doing anything self-improvement-related safely.
He compares the framing "recursive self-improvement (and we'll figure out later what role humans play)" to "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)" — vague enough, with the right keywords to placate critics, but essentially misleading about the goal at play.
