Claude Code Tip: Drop the 1M-Context Disable Flag, Keep Autocompact at 300-400K
dotey · x · 2026-10-10
Practical Claude Code configuration advice: the previously recommended CLAUDECODEDISABLE1MCONTEXT setting in /.claude/settings. is no longer needed and should be removed (keeping it caps you at 200k). But keep autocompact around 300-400K (/autocompact 400k).
The reasoning comes from a hands-on test: two machines running two accounts in parallel, one with 1M context enabled and one disabled — the 1M machine burned tokens far faster, and consumption dropped immediately after disabling it.
