Rumors: Google near recursive self-improvement as all three labs close in on RSI
imjustnewatai · x · 2026-10-10
An unverified industry rumor claims all three frontier labs are close to cracking recursive self-improvement (RSI):
- Google: insiders say RSI is cracked or nearly so; pace picked up fast, jumping from GPT-5 level to Opus 5.5 level in months, speculated to be RSI-driven.
- Anthropic: started a new pretraining run about a week ago — not Fable 5.5 but what would become Fable 6 or something bigger, to catch up with OpenAI's Bel.
- OpenAI: Bel (possibly a codename) is the model behind the recently published math results, apparently helped by RSI too.
The author concludes all three are very close to or already at RSI — "scary and exciting at the same time." Note: unconfirmed rumors.
