Personal AI helper Allies abandons SaaS, goes fully open source on your own server
saheedniyi_02 · x · 2026-10-10
Developer timithechef announced alliesai will no longer be a SaaS product: he started weeks before Grok, Dots and Muse launched personal helpers, but by his own rule — need an unfair advantage or a 10x product — he had neither. The project is now Apache-2.0 open source, built on NousResearch's Hermes. Each "ally" has its own name, job and personality, remembers context, runs scheduled routines, asks before sensitive actions, and connects to Gmail and Google Calendar, all self-hosted. The author still uses it daily and will keep maintaining it.
