Claude Code CLI 2.1.296 lands with 79 changes:
- Read tool allowlarge option: ingest oversized text files in one call when context allows
- Per-subagent auto-compact: autoCompactWindow in subagent frontmatter and --agents definitions lets subagents compact earlier than the main conversation
- Uniform workflow models: CLAUDECODEWORKFLOWSUBAGENTMODEL runs every workflow agent on one model while other subagents keep theirs
- Tunable backoff: CLAUDECODEOVERLOADEDRETRYMAXDELAYMS sets a longer max delay for 529 overloaded retries
- Gateway policy: a new code key in managed.policies[] enables Claude Desktop's Code tab and gateway mode
- Fixes a redaction bug that could leak data after empty keys in shared transcripts and debug logs
