Isola lays out the three main pushbacks to the PRH narrative his new paper answers
phillip_isola · x · 2026-10-10
Part 2 of Phillip Isola's thread: the Platonic Representation Hypothesis (PRH) narrative has faced several pushbacks, which he summarizes as three points:
- Alignment may exist only at the level of local neighborhoods;
- It may be coarse-grained or weak;
- It may be relational and non-metric, unable to support actual cross-space transformations.
He concedes these critiques have merit but argues his team's new paper (the Shared Geometry work introduced in part 1) challenges all three.
