Pine Computer: A Cloud Computer Built for AI
Pine Computer launched a cloud computer designed for AI rather than humans: developers hand it a task via API, and the AI plans and works across browser, files, and shell, returning progress and results.
Core thesis: the bottleneck isn't the model, it's the environment. The team argues the industry keeps making models smarter while they spend intelligence compensating for a computer built for someone else.
Key design and numbers:
- Rethought perception: instead of repeatedly asking "what changed?", the AI receives event-driven notifications from the browser, apps, rendered display, and OS — described as "epoll for AI perception";
- 2–5x faster, 1/25 the model cost;
- On SaaS-Bench v1.1, GPT-5.6 Luna on Pine Computer scored 78.3% on checkpoints vs. 74.3% for Opus 5 with Claude Code (full-task completion reported separately);
- Conclusions drawn from analysis of millions of real-world execution traces, especially long-running tasks; the author previously rebuilt network infrastructure at Agora.
