Godzilla vs. Kong: AI safety professor's fable mocks 'the rival will keep us safe'
DavidSKrueger · x · 2026-10-10
Cambridge AI safety researcher David Krueger posted a satirical dialogue: citizens are told King Kong will fight Godzilla and save the city — but Kong isn't on their side, the city gets destroyed either way, and the optimist watches from a helicopter. The fable reads as a jab at the argument that competition between frontier AI labs provides safety: whoever wins, the public bears the risk.
