OpenAI builds new Codex sandbox on Windows using Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC)
OpenAIDevs · x · 2026-10-09
The OpenAI developer team announced a new sandbox mode for Codex on Windows, built on Microsoft's newly GA'd Execution Containers (MXC). The update promises faster setup, stronger network enforcement, and granular file access controls, requiring a compatible Windows 11 device.
It ties into Microsoft's "hybrid intelligence" platform push: MXC keeps agents contained at the OS level, HydraFusion lets models run locally with seamless cloud fallback, and GitHub is partnering to extend HydraFusion to Windows — signaling that agent containment is becoming a platform-level OS capability.
