Five questions every agent tool description must answer before it gets called
usehive · reddit · 2026-10-09
The author argues an agent tool's usability hinges on the description, not the model. A good description answers five questions: when to use it (and when not), what each input means and which are mandatory, what success looks like (so the agent can self-check), every error it can throw (undocumented errors get misread), and the permission rules — who can call it, what needs approval, what's off limits. Most tools answer only one; the agent guesses the rest.
