Deno team joins Cloudflare to make workerd a self-hostable open source runtime

Cloudflare announced that the Deno team is joining the company. In a joint post, Ryan Dahl and Kenton Varda explain that workerd and celld will be merged, with the goal of making Workers and Durable Objects primitives self-hostable so developers can use them in more places.
Dahl recounts the journey from Node.js to Deno: Deno improved the JavaScript developer experience but didn't fundamentally change what developers must assemble around the runtime — distributed computation, state coordination, storage, and autoscaling. The merger targets exactly these networked-application problems.
