Deno team joins Cloudflare to make self-hosting Workers apps first-class
ritakozlov · x · 2026-10-09
Cloudflare announced the Deno team, including Ryan Dahl, is joining the company. Deno and Workers have evolved in parallel on server-side JavaScript for nearly a decade.
Cloudflare acknowledges Workers has long been criticized for lock-in: workerd is open source but self-hosting it, especially with Durable Objects, remained cumbersome. The goal of this acquisition is to make self-hosting Workers apps a first-class experience.
