UK to legislate away non-compete clauses, hailed as historic win for AI startups and talent mobility

The UK Prime Minister announced legislation to ban non-compete clauses so they no longer hold back workers or block startups from hiring, with further options planned against excessive notice periods and other restrictive practices. AI minister Kanishka Narayan framed it as empowering people who take risks to build something.
Deep learning professor Nando de Freitas called it the most important thing a UK government has done for AI entrepreneurship in history, noting non-competes are gone and garden-leave and non-solicit rules are next.
