hboelman · x · 2026-10-09
Henk Boelman, organizer of Global AI Community, recounts twice being locked into platforms: a meetup platform holding the member list for 7 years until prices/rules changed, and Umbraco slowing them down once needs got specific. Both taught him to keep the ability to leave. He applies the same lesson to AI: open weights mean control, portability, and independence. The rule isn't 'open only' — it's never depend on something you can't leave.
