A practical heuristic for choosing between AI agents and automation: if the workflow is predictable, automate it; if it requires decisions, consider an agent — don't use an agent just because "agentic" sounds cooler. The quoter adds that agents burn money daily: hardcode what you can and call an agent only when on-the-fly judgment is needed.
