Shakespeare: an open-source Mac typing-stats app built with Claude Code

whitew0lf · reddit · 2026-10-09

A Reddit user released Shakespeare, a free, MIT-licensed macOS menu bar app that turns your typing into fun stats, built end-to-end with Claude Code and working fully offline.

Features

The author directed product and design while Claude wrote 2,500 lines of Swift/SwiftUI, split the architecture, wrote build scripts, and produced 31 unit tests run under AddressSanitizer. Caveats: requires Input Monitoring permission (read the source first) and assumes US key layout.
