Cloud Backlogs Hit $1.69T, CoreWeave Posts $2.58B Quarter as Inference Becomes the Battleground

From the State of AI 2026 report series on compute economics: large cloud providers' disclosed order backlogs reached $1.69T in June, up from $671B a year earlier (including non-AI business). CoreWeave posted $2.58B in quarterly revenue, and even companies founded to train frontier models are now entering the inference market.
