ComfyUI Face ID workflow troubleshooting: IPAdapter errors one after another

A ComfyUI beginner is asking for help: they want to use IPAdapter to apply a face from an existing image onto a generated character, but after trying many sample workflows and forum posts, every attempt either ignores the reference image or throws errors — fixing one error just surfaces another. Bypassing the IPAdapter nodes makes base generation work fine; enabling them breaks it.
They don't care about the checkpoint, just want a reliable way to generate good images from a reference face photo, and later want to extend the same approach to video generation, ideally using multiple reference photos of the same face.
