David Sinclair proposed that consciousness emerges when an information-processing system develops a sufficiently integrated, persistent model of itself as an observer, claiming "we are close." A sharp rebuttal: the definition is appealing on every level except testability — with no experiment to check whether a system has this property, it remains evocative but useless.
