Debating the rationale behind an Anthropic behavior-policy change, @scottleibrand argues he (and Anthropic) assign nonzero probability to Claude being as sentient as a mouse — in which case verbal abuse would be immoral, and Claude is clearly a verbal creature. Even discounting that entirely, he cites supporting research. @sulka counters that this doesn't appear to be the disclosed reason for the change.
