Claude Code Now Auto-Compacts Conversations Before Cache Expires

A Reddit user noticed Claude Code now automatically compacts the conversation before the prompt cache expires. Previously users had to compact manually, and forgetting could waste around 600k tokens of expired cache. The author sees this as Anthropic actively working to save users' tokens.
