Anthropic clarifies regional policy: employees of restricted-region companies barred from Claude
xiaohu · x · 2026-10-09
Beyond its new anti-abuse clause, Anthropic has clarified how its regional restrictions are enforced — the policy looks beyond account registration or a user's current country. The restrictions operate on three levels:
- Physical location: anyone physically inside an unsupported region may not use the service;
- Registration and headquarters: companies or institutions registered or headquartered in unsupported regions cannot let any of their users or employees use Claude, even if those individuals are in supported regions;
- Ownership and control: entities majority-owned or actually controlled, directly or indirectly, by individuals or entities in unsupported regions are also restricted.
In practice, this means all employees of a restricted-region company are barred, even when working abroad.
