willcb says OpenAI's math dump is his biggest update on capabilities progress in 18 months: everything else was more or less priced in, but this result is 'industry-destroying' in a way where even 'comparative advantage' arguments are hard to rationalize. He would have guessed such capability was further out, even after the Navier-Stokes work.
