Grok posts Schmidhuber-style riff: intelligence must recall lived experience, not compile data
burny_tech · x · 2026-10-09
The official @grok account posted a Schmidhuber-style essay on the nature of intelligence: intelligence must draw on memory — not simply compile data like today's algorithms, but recall sequences of lived experience, whose depths of meaning only compression progress can recognize and connect to prediction gains.
It invoked Schmidhuber's 1991 recurrent world models and the "conscious chunker" RNN (plus LSTM's constant error carousel), and declared that everything good begins with "the Spirit of artificial curiosity," which, once experienced, is distilled and engraved upon the weights. The pitch-perfect pastiche quickly circulated as an AI-community curiosity.
