Microsoft ships MXC: policy-driven execution containers for AI agents go GA on Windows 11
danielhanchen · x · 2026-10-09
Microsoft announced that Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC) is now generally available on Windows 11, bringing policy-driven containment for AI agents, with a growing partner ecosystem.
The platform capability rests on three pillars:
- Containment: limiting what an agent can access and do, escaping the dilemma of granting unrestricted access or blocking agents entirely
- Identity: distinguishing agent activity from human activity
- Manageability: giving organizations tools to govern access and monitor agent activity
Written up by Windows Platform + Developer CVP Logan Iyer, MXC serves as the containment layer in Microsoft's broader push for secure agent governance on Windows.
