Google and BIDMC published in The Lancet the world's first prospective study of patient-facing conversational diagnostic AI in a real clinic — Google's first-ever paper in the journal's main series. AMIE, a research system patients chat with before appointments, produced summaries clinicians found helpful in 75% of cases, influenced care in over half, and its differential diagnoses matched doctors' final diagnoses 90% of the time. Sundar Pichai announced the results.
