Google Cloud launches Gemini agent, a universal work agent embedded across Workspace

- At Gemini at Work 2026, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian announced Gemini agent, pitched as a single universal agent for work: it answers questions, handles knowledge work, creates images and media, and writes and runs code — all grounded in your business context, with users delegating outcomes rather than giving step-by-step instructions.
- It works inline across Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat and Calendar, carrying the same memory, skills and controls everywhere.
- New data and analytics skills let both technical teams and business users get actionable insights via natural language in minutes; specialized skills, tools and connectors are rolling out for financial services and legal teams.
- Governance includes identity and policy management, authorization controls, secure sandboxing and network gateways; cost controls cover multi-model orchestration, Smart Routing and real-time spend caps.
- Scale metrics: nearly 500 Google Cloud customers each processed over a trillion tokens in the past year, 80% of Google Cloud customers use its AI products, and nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise.
