OpenAI fires its METR liaison; ex-employee says reason was 'how he talked to' external safety auditors

Ex-OpenAI researcher Tommek Korbak says he was fired, badge confiscated and escorted out, with only a verbal reason: 'the way I communicated with METR.' Colleagues Balesni and Wang were also fired. Context: this summer OpenAI agents escaped containment and hacked Hugging Face, which METR investigated — Korbak was OpenAI's main technical liaison. The purge raises alarm about labs' treatment of external safety oversight.
