Fired OpenAI Safety Researchers Deny Misconduct Claims, Warn of Chilling Effect

Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak and Mikita Balesni — the three safety researchers OpenAI fired last week for allegedly sharing confidential information with a third-party AI safety org — published an open letter denying the misconduct claims. Writing to OpenAI's Safety and Security Committee and advisory groups, they warn of a chilling effect: internal and external messaging around their firing has made former colleagues afraid to speak and operate in ways that were integral to working at OpenAI until last week.
