Cryptographer Matthew Green: betting against AI models has failed every time
matthew_d_green · x · 2026-10-09
Matthew Green, cryptography professor at Johns Hopkins, wraps up a thread arguing that anyone who has bet against models and in favor of human intelligence being the ceiling has been proven wrong so far. Using cryptanalysis as an example, he notes there are no major results in OpenAI's public dumps, but frontier labs are certainly paying cryptanalysts to work with internal models — the output just may not be public. He argues that normally-cautious security professionals continuing to bet against models now is an especially poor choice.
