Adding MTP headers to GGUF files gives llama.cpp a measurable local inference speedup
ZenZombie117 · reddit · 2026-10-09
While benchmarking Strata vs. llama.cpp vs. his own Runner, the author found that part of Strata's speed advantage comes from the MTP (Multi-Token Prediction) header in the GGUF file.
To make the comparison fair, he produced MTP headers for ISTA-DASlab's Qwen3.8-Flash-Next GGUF quants and shared them:
- MTP header, to pair with the original GGUF
- His own quant with header pre-applied
Results: llama.cpp sees a clear speedup with the MTP header, though Strata is still far faster; Runner needs architectural work.
