Cryptographer Matthew Green discusses relying on security parameters derived from decades of human research, given claims that AI progress has stalled and no lab can push further. But if those assumptions were off by even 26 bits, the whole foundation collapses. He admits he doesn't feel good about this arrangement — and suspects nobody else will either.
