Epic ships official Unreal MCP, letting Claude Code and Cursor drive the Unreal Editor
Scobleizer · x · 2026-10-09
- Epic has released an official Unreal Model Context Protocol (Unreal MCP): an MCP server embedded inside the Unreal Editor process that lets any MCP-compatible AI agent — Claude Code, Cursor, or MCP Inspector — drive the editor over a local HTTP connection.
- The plugin exposes engine functionality as Tools (spawning actors, configuring lighting, creating material instances, inspecting Slate widgets, running automation tests) and is easy to extend with custom tools. It's built on the open MCP standard (JSON-RPC: initialize, tools/list, tools/call); toolsets require the AllToolsets plugin.
- The feature is Experimental: many capabilities are incomplete, and APIs/data formats may change at any time, so Epic cautions against shipping with it.
