Fired OpenAI Researcher Was METR's Official Liaison — the Reason He Was Fired

The Wall Street Journal initially reported that the fired OpenAI researchers were terminated for sharing information with outside AI safety groups. But as this post points out, Tomek Korbak says he was fired for sharing information with METR — after explicitly serving as OpenAI's liaison to METR during the Hugging Face investigation. The same act being both an authorized duty and a firing offense is deeply bizarre.
