What should an open scientific paper look like in the AI age? Economists demo a living paper

Economist Paul Novosad asks what an open scientific paper should look like in the AI age, building a demonstration project from his paper on the childhood socioeconomic circumstances of Nobel Laureates.
Former CEA chair Jason Furman endorsed the effort and added a proposal: papers based on public time series data should include a section that updates as new data is released, testing conclusions out of sample.
The core idea: as AI can read and analyze public data on demand, papers should stop being static PDFs and become verifiable, reproducible living documents that continuously re-test their conclusions.
