Nobel-related paper publishes its full referee reports—and even top LLMs can't summarize them

The "Access to Opportunity in the Sciences" project publicly documents a paper's full journey through peer review, including editor rejection letters and author responses. The authors note they tried using AI to extract the substantive content of referee reports, but after many attempts even the best language models could not adequately summarize the main ideas. Economist Josh Gans adds that the record shows authors persist with Top-5 journal resubmissions after rejection, whereas his philosophy was "one and done." The file also illustrates initial screening at top journals: the paper was redirected to an open-access sister journal purely on priority rating.
