OpenAI's annualized revenue nears $50B: methodology gap fueled the $70B misestimate

Per FT, OpenAI told investors its annualized revenue approached $50B at end of September — $20B below the widely reported $70B. The discrepancy comes from revenue accounting: Anthropic includes sales via cloud partners (AWS, Google Cloud), OpenAI does not, and investor-side adjustments to make the figures comparable inflated the earlier estimate. OpenAI perpetual futures slid on Liquid after the report; OpenAI declined to comment.
