OpenAI rep claimed under oath not to know why 3 safety researchers were fired, critic notes

OpenAI's representative at the NYC Council hearings, while under oath, said the company didn't know why it fired three safety researchers the previous week — and declined to definitively deny that safety advocacy played a role, even when pressed directly by Speaker Menin.
Two days later, a company spokesperson gave the WSJ a staff memo from a safety leader stating the firings "were not about raising safety concerns or speaking out."
The author asks the obvious question: if the firings truly weren't about safety concerns, why wouldn't the sworn representative say so outright?
